Cake size
Here's a rough guide to help you decide the size of cake you'll need. You should also bear in mind that if serving the cake as a dessert (large slice) then the number of portions shown below will be fewer.
If you have a large number of guests to cater for, you could choose to have a plain iced cake out of sight, this can save you money by lowering the cost of the larger more intricate cake.
Sponge Cake
- 8" Round - approx 20 portions
- 8" Square - approx 27 portions
- 10" Round - approx 34 portions
- 10" Square - approx 45 portions
- 12" Round - approx 50 portions
- 12" Square - approx 67 portions
Fruit Cake
- 8" Round - approx 40 portions
- 8" Square - approx 54 portions
- 10" Round - approx 68 portions
- 10" Square - approx 90 portions
- 12" Round - approx 100 portions
- 12" Square - approx 134 portions
Other shapes are available. Hexagons, octagons and heart shapes give approximately the same number of portions as a round cake of the same size.
